135: Fear
Wednesday, June 16th, 2010Fear is a very strong emotion. It comes from deep down inside of us and is primal in nature. It’s an emotion that is meant to protect us from harm and is visceral, in that it doesn’t require any thought to summon it forth. When confronted with a situation where we think our security is in jeopardy, we become fearful. But while fear can help us to steer clear of dangerous situations, it also limits the ways we can response. Cognitive thinking shuts down when we’re fearful. We miss opportunities to understand the situation, and to grow from that understanding.
